Dr Gail Teachman is an assistant professor at School of Occupational Therapy, Western Univertsity, Canada. Her research examines the broader social dimensions and relations that mediate health and well-being for disabled children and their families. This transdisciplinary work draws on critical disability studies, rehabilitation sciences, childhood ethics, and social studies of childhood along with her in-depth background as an occupational therapist. Her program of research includes a particular focus on eliciting the views of children and youth, particularly those who have been systematically excluded from research. To achieve these aims, she has developed and published award-winning, innovative qualitative methods for doing research in collaboration with disabled children and youth, including those who communicate in ways other than speech.
